The Sword is Sharp: Buffalo Sabres Charge into the Second Round!

Buffalo, it’s time to keep those jerseys on and the "Let’s Go Buffalo!" chants loud! For the first time since 2007, our Buffalo Sabres have not only made the playoffs but have advanced to the Eastern Conference Second Round.

After a thrilling regular season that saw the Sabres clinch the Atlantic Division title, the energy in the KeyBank Center is at an all-time high. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a young skater just starting out, this is a historic moment for the 716.

Regular Season Recap: A Year for the Record Books

The 2025–26 season was nothing short of a "Buff-a-load" of success. Under the veteran leadership of head coach Lindy Ruff, the team finished with a stellar 50–23–9 record, totaling 109 points.

Team Leaders at a Glance:

Player Stat Achievement
Tage Thompson Goals 40
Rasmus Dahlin Assists 55
Tage Thompson Total Points 81
Mattias Samuelsson Plus/Minus +41

The team's success was fueled by a mid-season surge where they went 32–6–2, a run that tied for the fourth-best 40-game stretch in NHL history!

Round 1: Taking Down the Bruins

The Sabres faced a tough challenge in the first round against the Boston Bruins. It was a hard-fought battle of wills, but Buffalo showed their grit by finishing the series in six games (4-2).

Playoff Stars So Far:

  • Alex Tuch: Leading the charge with 4 goals and 3 assists (7 points).

  • Tage Thompson: Matching Tuch with 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists).

  • Alex Lyon: Stepped into the crease in Game 3 and hasn't looked back, posting a dominant 1.14 Goals Against Average (GAA) and a .955 save percentage.

The Road Ahead: Round 2 vs. Montreal

Tonight, Wednesday, May 6, the puck drops for Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens. This matchup is going to be a nail-biter. During the regular season, these two teams were neck-and-neck, splitting their four games 2-2.

Series Schedule:

  • Game 1: Wednesday, May 6 @ Buffalo (7:00 PM ET)

  • Game 2: Friday, May 8 @ Buffalo (7:00 PM ET)

  • Game 3: Sunday, May 10 @ Montreal (7:00 PM ET)

  • Game 4: Tuesday, May 12 @ Montreal (TBA)

Predictions: Why We Believe

While the Canadiens are a fast, youthful team, the Sabres have the "Lindy Ruff Factor" and a defense led by Captain Rasmus Dahlin that has proven it can shut down the league's best.

Our Prediction: Sabres in 6! The home-ice advantage at KeyBank Center will be the difference-maker. With Alex Lyon standing tall in net and the "Tage and Tuch" connection firing on all cylinders, the Sabres are primed to keep this dream season alive.

Family Tip: If you can't make it to the arena, check out the Round 2 Playoff Watch Parties happening around the city. It’s a great way for the kids to experience the playoff atmosphere in a fun, safe environment!

Let’s go, Buffalo!
